Blue Jays trade for infielder Lenyn Sosa, send teenage prospect to White Sox

The Blue Jays added some much-needed infleld depth on Monday, acquiring Lenyn Sosa from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for outfield prospect Jordan Rich and a player to be named later or cash.

While the 26-year-old Sosa has struggled to start the season with Chicago, he is coming off a career year in 2025. Last season, Sosa posted a .264 batting average while hitting 22 home runs and 75 RBIs in 140 games — all career highs.

However, this season his batting average has dropped to .212 and he has yet to hit a home run in 12 games so far.

Toronto has been hit hard by injuries to start the season, with Davis Schneider — who also has been filling in as a starter in the outfield — and the recently acquired Tyler Fitzgerald among the team’s current options on the bench.

According to MLB.com, Sosa is considered a below-average defensive player, but has the versatility to play first, second or third base, with the majority of his starts coming in a middle-infield role. He also made five appearances at shortstop as a rookie, but hasn’t played there since.

Who is Jordan Rich?

Rich is an 18-year-old outfielder who was drafted in the 17th round of last year’s MLB draft out of American Heritage High School in Plantation, Fla.

Paul is listed at 5-foot-10 and 175 pounds, and has yet to make his professional debut.

To make room for Sosa on the roster, the team also moved starting pitcher Shane Bieber to the 60-day Injured List as he recovers from forearm fatigue and elbow inflammation.

The move came on an off-day for the Blue Jays, who will be back in action on Tuesday night in Milwaukee against the Brewers to start a three-city, nine-game trip.

After their series against the Brewers, the Blue Jays fly south to Arizona to take on the Diamondbacks starting on Friday before shifting West for three games against the Los Angeles Angels.
