Kyle Lowry usually was the smallest player on the floor when he played for the Raptors, but his greatness is “too big” to be honoured on just one night, the team teased.
On Tuesday afternoon, the team posted on its official social media feeds, sharing a brief tease into what may be coming in terms of a tribute to the now-retired GROAT – Greatest Raptor Of All Time.
The five-second video first features a picture of Lowry bringing the ball down the court while holding up his pointer finger as if to call out a play.
The video then briefly transitions to a logo of the Raptors mascot holding the same pose that Lowry had.
“A legacy too big for one night,” the Raptors captioned the clip.
Fans predictably ate it up, with many showing their love for the Lowry-inspired logo.
Others posted their own memes of the logo, with many followers joking about Lowry’s penchant for taking charges and others poking fun at his ample rear end.
The team likely will use the logo during several games this coming season, just as it did with the Vince Carter-inspired look in 2025-26.
What other tributes could be coming?
Some fans on X also called for the team to design a special court for Lowry.
The team has yet to officially announce when Lowry’s jersey will be raised to the rafters at Scotiabank Arena, but that could be coming soon.
There has been much speculation that the team was waiting for DeMar DeRozan, another former Raptor and good friend of Lowry, to find a home in free agency.
The prevailing thought is that the Raptors would like have DeRozan in the building for the ceremony as an added special touch for ex-teammates.
So, with DeRozan signing with the Denver Nuggets last week, plans may now be set in motion.
The Nuggets are scheduled to come to Toronto on Sunday, Nov. 29, for their lone trip north of the border this season.
Another oft-speculated date for the ceremony is Jan. 7, 2027 against the Minnesota Timberwolves, with the dateline of 1/7 being the key to the rumour.
Now the ball is the Raptors’ court as to when they will officially honour the GROAT.
