There must be something about late August baseball that has fans in Chicago fired up as a second wild brawl broke out during a game in the Windy City within a week.
Absolute chaos broke out in the upper deck of Rate Field on Sunday during the game between the White Sox and New York Mets.
During the eighth inning of the tight contest, section 518 became engulfed in violence as several fans — many of whom were wearing either White Sox jerseys or team merchandise — began fighting amongst themselves.
While it’s unclear what sparked the fracas, a couple of fans were seen being punched and then pushed into the rows beneath them as bystanders did their best to get out of the way as the men proceed to batter each other.
Then, with a move straight out of a professional wrestling ring, one fan wearing a black hoodie was spotted leaping down several rows to deliver a flying stomp/kick to one of the downed combatants.
The man who was hit with flying attack was then able to deliver some punishment of his own, tossing the assailant down another two rows.
“Where’s the security?” a fan filming the incident said before noticing a few members of the stadium staff already had attempted to restore order.
What happened at Wrigley Field?
Sunday’s incident occurred just days after a violent brawl broke out during a game between the Cubs and White Sox.
During last Tuesday’s game at Wrigley Field, a fight involving several men saw punches, kicks and drinks being thrown in the bleachers and ended with charges being laid.
What appeared to start with some taunting escalated to seeing one Cubs fan being left bleeding after a group of White Sox fans beat on him until security and police intervened.
According to TMZ, three people were arrested after the incident, including a 41-year-old man charged with misdemeanor battery and felony possession of cocaine. Two men, aged 33 and 29, were charged with misdemeanor criminal trespass.
How are the White Sox and Cubs doing?
While there apparently is plenty of fight in the stands, both of Chicago’s teams in some playoff battles on the field.
The White Sox head into Tuesday’s action with a 2.5 game lead over the Cleveland Guardians in the AL Central while the Cubs have a healthy lead in the NL wild-card race.
