Rogers giving away hundreds of Blue Jays tickets for red-hot Canada Day game

Wednesday will be one of the hottest days of the year so far in Toronto and tickets to the Blue Jays’ Canada Day game will be even hotter.

Toronto baseball fans have circled July 1 on their calendars for years as a day to try to get down to Rogers Centre for a game — and this year is no different.

To mark the occasion, Rogers will be giving away 500 free tickets to the game to some very lucky fans.

Throughout Tuesday, starting at 7 a.m., Rogers will be giving away pairs of the highly sought-after tickets to Rogers customers at three different pop-up locations across the GTA.

The first 75 customers at each pop-up location will win a pair of tickets and have their photo taken in vintage seats from Exhibition Stadium, the original home of the Blue Jays and where the franchise played its first game on April 7, 1977.

“Canada Day at Rogers Centre is one of the most highly anticipated events of the summer,” said Terrie Tweddle, Chief Brand and Communications Officer, Rogers. “As a proud Canadian company and owner of Canada’s Team, we’re excited to celebrate Canada Day at the ballpark.”

Where can I get these free tickets?

The tickets will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis and the fans must provide proof that they are Rogers customers in order to score a pair of seats for Wednesday’s game.

The locations of the pop-ups will be revealed throughout the day on Tuesday via Rogers’ Instagram account.

While there will be 225 pairs of tickets given away on-location, there will be an additional block of tickets

“In case you can’t make it in person, we will also have a dedicated giveaway here on Instagram to give out the remaining 25 pairs,” Rogers posted.

What does the team do to celebrate Canada Day?

The team traditionally wears its popular red alternate uniforms for the occasion and there are Canada-themed activities and events in and around the ballpark.

“Fans are encouraged to arrive early and take part in pregame festivities celebrating our shared Canadian pride, with activities, games, photo opportunities and more happening throughout the ballpark,” the team’s website reads.

There also will be a Shane Bieber red cut-off replica jersey giveaway for the first 15,000 fans in attendance for Wednesday’s game, so getting downtown early is a priority if you want to score one.

The matchup is a huge one, too, with former Blue Jays star Bo Bichette returning to Toronto after leaving this past off-season, signing a three-year, $126-million deal with the New York Mets.

What else has Rogers been doing?

The giveaway is just the latest of several that Rogers has hosted to help celebrate the team’s 50th season.

Earlier this year, Rogers launched an owner-for-the-day contest for dedicated fans of the team, which has given several Canadians a unique, behind-the-scenes look at how the club operates.

The company has also given away thousands of tickets to customers as part of its Rogers Beyond the Seat program, while the team’s gameday giveaways remain top-notch.
