Social media is going wild after an argument between two fans was caught on camera during a FIFA World Cup match.
The fans, outfitted in South Africa gear, have gone viral after getting into what appeared to be an argument, with people online trying to figure out who they are and what sparked the squabble.
“Wait for it… I can’t believe the cameraman caught this moment,” a TikTok user wrote alongside a recording of the moment from their TV.
The clip was filmed during the match between South Africa and South Korea in Monterrey, Mexico, on June 24. At first, the group appears to be having a good time, waving flags and dancing in the stands.
What happened between the two?
However, the mood quickly sours after the man, who is wearing a South Africa jersey and standing between two women, looks at his phone.
As the woman to his right glances at the screen, the man appears to say, “It’s nothing,” before quickly putting the phone in his pocket.
The man and woman — whom many believe are a couple — then begin arguing. He appears to shake his head no while she nods yes.
The disagreement continues as the woman becomes visibly more upset while the man eats a treat with a spoon from a cardboard container.
At one point, she briefly tries to hide their faces behind a flag before he begins dancing in place and appears to tell her to “calm down” — something that has never successfully worked during an argument.
The woman eventually sits down, still looking steamed, while the man remains standing and repeatedly turns back to continue the argument.
What are fans asking?
The clip has been widely shared across TikTok and X, racking up millions of views and just as many questions and comments.
Many viewers believe the man was caught looking at a dating app or images of other women, while others think he may have been gambling on the match.
“How can I file a divorce for someone else?” one X user joked while reposting the clip.
“Mood went from 100 to 0 in a split second,” one TikTok user commented.
“I could feel her heart sink into her stomach, because I’m also a woman,” another person wrote.
Another Coldplay kiss-cam scenario?
Others compared the soccer fan video to last summer’s infamous Coldplay concert in Toronto, where a man and woman were caught on the kiss cam and later accused of having an affair.
Lead singer Chris Martin poked fun at the awkward moment on stage, saying: “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.”
The pair were later identified as Andy Byron, the CEO of tech company Astronomer, and the company’s head of HR, Kristin Cabot.
