Tempo star Kiki Rice shares common frustration of living in Toronto after WNBA rookie season

Toronto traffic seems to be a hot topic for new athletes in the city after Maple Leafs forward Teddy Blueger weighed in this week.

Now Kiki Rice, the Tempo’s first-round pick in the 2026 draft, has just finished her rookie season in Toronto and shared her review of the 6ix — and also had a grievance about getting around the city.

In a post on TikTok recapping her first year living in Toronto, Rice took aim at the TTC and the frustration it can cause drivers.

“Bro, the TTC makes driving frustrating, always having to stop,” Rice captioned a photo, which shows the all-too-common sight of the back of a TTC streetcar.

Rice also shared some hate for air travel — specifically Air Canada and going through customs.

“OMG Air Canada, don’t get me started,” Rice captioned a photo on her post. “Also sucks going through customs every time you come from the U.S.”

The cold weather also didn’t go over well with the California native.

“It stayed cold till like early June which sucks,” she wrote. “Coming from L.A. wasn’t ready for that.”

What did Rice like about Toronto?

However, the good by far outweighed the bad in Rice’s post.

The 22-year-old guard rated Toronto a “10/10 city for just chillin and walking around,” adding there are “tons of good parks to explore.

“Food is great, and it’s a super diverse city, so you can find just about anything you want,” Rice wrote, while sharing several pictures of meals and drinks that she has had during her time in Toronto.

Rice specifically shouted out a couple of her favourite spots in the city, including Cactus Club and Botanic. But one food item that she apparently couldn’t find in Toronto was a good version of a breakfast sandwich.

Her team might be able to help her out on that front, though, with the Tempo’s official account commenting “we gotta get you on some breakfast spots & more restaurants, rook.”

With the expansion Tempo becoming the WNBA’s first international team this year, many players experienced growing pains associated with moving to a new country.

Earlier this year, Marina Mabrey went viral for voicing her opinion on Rogers and its internet reliability and customer service — a growing pain from moving to Canada from the U.S.
