Did TD hit a ‘home run’ by changing Blue Jays bright green home-plate ad at Rogers Centre?

TD Bank is about to see its satisfaction ratings go up, and it has nothing to do with interest rates or customer service.

On Wednesday, the Canadian bank announced on social media that it is making a change to one of its most prominent ads, seen by millions of people over the past month or so.

Yes, TD Bank is getting rid of the bright, green ad seen behind home plate at Rogers Centre during Blue Jays games and replacing it with a more fan-friendly and eye-friendly version.

In a post on Instagram, TD Canada shared the news.

What is the new ad?

“Blue Jays fans, when you asked us to ‘turn down the brightness,’ we heard you,” the caption began.

“Introducing ‘Turf Green,’ a new background matched to the turf, so we all can focus on what matters: Baseball and our love of the game.”

The post featured before and after shots of the ad, first with the bright, distracting green ad and the next image with the new version utilizing the look of ballpark grass.

What did fans say?

Fan reaction to the announced change was overwhelmingly positive on social media, with some saying they didn’t believe it would have happened.

“I very honestly thought there was no chance they would change it. Thank god,” one user commented on Reddit.

“Thank God. Their new bright green branding colour is so distracting,” another wrote.

“This might be the greatest in-season move since the Tulo/Price trades,” a third user replied.

Others were hoping that TD, one of the Blue Jays biggest sponsors, would take it a step further. Many commented that they hope it follows suit and alters their logo on the team’s jersey sleeve while others asked for a makeover on the dark grey bricks behind the seats at home plate.

What’s going on with the Blue Jays?

Blue Jays fans won’t have an opportunity to see the new ad during broadcasts until next week, however.

The team is on a seven-game trip and is currently in Minnesota facing the Twins in a four-game series which started on Thursday night.

The Jays lost the opener 7-1 and will be looking to bounce back on Friday night with first pitch set for 8:10 p.m. Patrick Corbin is slated to start for the Jays while Simeon Woods-Richardson will get the ball for the hosts.

After the series with the Twins wraps on Sunday afternoon, the boys in blue will then head to Florida for a three-game set against AL East rival Tampa Bay Rays.

The Blue Jays next game at Toronto’s downtown dome will come on Friday, May 8, against the Los Angeles Angels.
