Why Philadelphia Eagles’ lack of heart makes rival Giants a Week 9 best bet

The lines are from Covers.com and the home teams are in CAPs.

Jacksonville -10.5 over BALTIMORE

I don’t think you really could’ve expected much else from the Ravens offence given the quarterback situation and the weather making things even worse.

Atlanta +3.5 over Cincinnati over in Madrid

On a neutral field where it’s not pouring buckets, it’s hard to believe the Falcons offence will be as bad as it was last week. The Bengals had enough trouble with the lowly Titans, at least enough to have us doubting giving up that hook.

INDIANAPOLIS +5.5 over Dallas

We’re about as pessimistic as it gets with the Cowboys and for good reason. After completely blowing it against the Cardinals, how can you trust this team, especially on defence, against anyone – even the fire-sale Colts?

L.A. Rams -5.5 over WASHINGTON

We’ve doubted the Rams a few times in recent weeks, but they’ve come through and covered their games despite some injury concerns. They’ve still got plenty of weapons to give the Commanders defence some headaches.

NEW ORLEANS -2.5 over Cleveland

The Saints will be well-rested and ready for a Browns team that could be without Deshaun Watson — which normally isn’t a huge blow, but he has bailed them out repeatedly this season.

New York Jets +10.5 over KANSAS CITY

Sure, Kenneth Walker could simply run all over the Jets, but New York’s offence has secretly been pretty good this season and could potentially keep up with the Chiefs.

MIAMI +7.5 over Detroit

The Lions will be playing with a ton of emotion after Jack Campbell’s terrifying injury, but losing the star linebacker could be devastating for an already-fragile defence. The Dolphins also play hard and shouldn’t be automatically counted out from covering.

Denver -2.5 over CAROLINA

After starting the season strong, the wheels seem to have fallen off for the Panthers, Bryce Young and especially Carolina’s defence. Denver continues to pull off wins in tricky situations and it’s hard to doubt they won’t do it again.

New York Giants -3 over PHILADELPHIA

There could be riots in the streets of Philadelphia if they can’t even cover as underdogs against the hated Giants. But what have we seen in recent weeks to believe the Birds have any heart to play with? Switching to Joe Milton at QB from Tanner McKee isn’t going to help much, either.

LA CHARGERS +4.5 over Houston

Something has to give here. Either the Chargers finally pull it together at home against another disappointing should-be contender, or big changes need to be made – including some trades and firings.

SAN FRANCISCO -9.5 over Las Vegas

The Niners come off their bye and hopefully should be a bit healthier after such an injury-plagued start to the season. The Raiders are doing better than expected, but don’t have the quality to keep up.

NEW ENGLAND -3.5 over Green Bay

On paper, this one seems like it should be closer than this line indicates – but that doesn’t make it any easier to pick the Pats. The NFC North has been dominant outside of its own division this season and the Pats are facing a flight overseas after this one. Yet, somehow, it feels like the Pats win and cover…

SEATTLE -8.5 over Arizona

After being embarrassed at home by the surging Bears, the Seahawks now must bounce back against a Cardinals team that has tossed the QB keys to Gardiner Minshew. However, Seattle also is forced to make a QB change with Sam Darnold hurt. We don’t think it makes too much of a difference this week, though.

Tampa Bay +6.5 over CHICAGO

The Bears are coming off that outstanding win on Monday night, so we feel like this line could be a bit inflated. Tampa has overcome its slow start and its defence looks legit. Now, just to get Baker Mayfield to throw some more passes…

Buffalo -3.5 over MINNESOTA

Until the Vikings make some sort of move to kickstart their offence into gear, it’s just too hard to bet on them — even as home dogs. The Vikes are trending towards having Carson Wentz under centre as Kyler Murray battles injury, but that’s not enough. Buffalo certainly has some flaws, but are more than capable of winning in Minny.

Last week: 7-7

This season: 59-62

Best bets: 5-3
