Fans of Mixed Martial Arts may not have gotten their money’s worth watching the co-main event of LFA 235 in Louisville, Ky., but it’s doubtful you’ll hear anyone complaining.
During the event on Friday night, one match turned out to be a real “blink and you’ll miss it” situation when a combatant scored one of the quickest recorded knockouts in the sport’s history.
Jake Woodley needed just one punch and four seconds to put down David Wright in their Legacy Fighting Alliance matchup.
What happened in the fight?
As the opening bell rang, Woodley charged across the octagon and threw a single right-handed punch, which connected cleanly on Wright’s jaw, instantly knocking him out.
As the punch spun Wright to his left, Woodley grabbed his leg to attempt a takedown, but it wasn’t necessary. As soon as Wright hit the mat, the referee jumped in to separate the two fighters and waved off the match.
Woodley then got to his feet and celebrated wildly as Wright was attended to by officials.
What did Woodley say about the knockout?
“I visualized getting a five-second knockout a million times,” Woodley said after the fight, not quite believing what had happened.
“I knew I was going to run out and throw a right hand. I felt him go stiff and I was like, ‘Holy s***, I think I knocked him out.’”
Woodley improved his record to 8-1, with Friday’s lightning-quick KO being only the third such of his career.
Was the knockout a record?
While seeing a one-punch, four-second knockout surely is something uniqye, it actually fell short of making it into the record books.
According to MMA site Tapology, there have been no fewer than 54 fights that have ended in three seconds, according to official results.
