Logan Stankoven is a Stanley Cup champion and, like the rest of us, apparently someone trying to get rid of some stuff online.
A user appearing to be the Carolina Hurricanes forward listed some brand-new hockey sticks on Facebook Marketplace, looking to unload some extra lumber during the NHL off-season.
Instagram user kh_x_viii spotted the listing earlier this week, shared a screenshot online, and it quickly went viral.
The items were listed in Kamloops, B.C. — Stankoven’s hometown — by a Facebook account under his name that joined the social media platform in 2019.
“Brand new Warrior QR7 and Alpha LX3 sticks. 70 flex with W03 curve. $175 per stick,” the listing read.
The post sparked plenty of online debate. Some criticized the millionaire NHL player for selling extra sticks, while others pointed out that the asking price was a bargain price for the equipment in question.
Last summer, Stankoven signed an eight-year, $48-million US contract with the Hurricanes that carries an average salary of $6 million per season. He also received a $2.5-million signing bonus.
Although he was on an entry-level contract before the 2025-26 season, Stankoven has now earned $8.44 million over his four years in the NHL — hardly a pittance.
“You’d think he could afford to just donate them,” one user wrote on X.
“Only $2.44M career earnings so far,” one Reddit user commented, referring to his rookie deal. “Have to make ends meet somehow.”
“Gotta save $$ for that Stanley Cup ring Dundon’s gonna make him pay for,” another X user joked, referring to controversial Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon.
Plenty of others defended the sale, noting that many other players have admitted to selling game-used or extra equipment and that the price was more than reasonable.
According to JustHockeyToronto.com, the Warrior QR7 stick is worth $439.99, while the Alpha LX3 retails for $429.99.
“Honestly a good deal for those top of the line sticks,” one user said.
“That’s a great price I’d be hopping on that ASAP,” another wrote.
“Looks like he’s selling them well under cost,” a third user noted.
When is Stankoven’s Cup celebration?
While he’s not selling hockey gear online, Stankoven is likely basking in his off-season as a Stanley Cup champion and planning his day with hockey’s biggest trophy, although the celebration has hit a slight scheduling hiccup.
According to CFJC News reporter Marty Hastings, Stankoven’s Stanley Cup day has been pushed back a few days, from Aug. 13 to Aug. 16.
While plans have not yet been finalized, Stankoven told the outlet last month that his ideas include “a gathering downtown” and a visit to St. Ann’s Academy.
