The odds of Brock Rechsteiner winning a spot on the New Orleans Saints roster might have just drastically gone down.
Rechsteiner, the son of WWE Hall of Famer Scott Steiner, has been suspended for six games by the NFL – though the reason for the ban was not announced.
The suspension was announced via the league’s transaction wire on Thursday, as Rechsteiner participates in training camp with the NFC South team.
The Saints signed the wide receiver as an undrafted free agent out of Jacksonville State, and he had been competing for a spot on the team’s 90-man pre-season roster.
What are the odds that Rechsteiner makes the team?
Despite the suspension, the 23-year-old receiver can still take part in training camp and the team’s three pre-season games.
Rechsteiner saw his chances of making the team increase after fellow receiver Ja’Lynn Polk abruptly retired at just 24 years old. A season-ending knee injury to defensive lineman Bryan Bresee also opened up a roster spot.
During his three years of college football with the Gamecocks, Rechsteiner posted 53 catches and 629 receiving yards in 37 games, along with seven touchdowns.
Could Rechsteiner become a pro wrestler?
Should Rechsteiner fail to make the Saints roster or practice squad – or get picked up by another team, for that matter – he could consider joining the family business alongside cousin Bron Breakker and has hinted at such in the past.
“I work out with (Bron Breakker) all the time back home. I go fishing with him a lot because he moved back to Georgia. He has really convinced me to, once I’m done playing football, to get into the wrestling business,” Rechsteiner told WDSU-TV earlier this year.
“I want to play football for as long as I can, give it the best shot I can, but once I’m done playing football, I’ll get into it, for sure. I’ll be getting into WWE.”
Breakker (real name Bronson Rechsteiner) is the son of WWE great Rick Steiner, also played college football and attended NFL training camp with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2020 before being released. In WWE, he is a two-time Intercontinental champion and currently is a World Tag Team champion alongside Austin Theory.
