Canadian World Cup star Alistair Johnston calls out airline after being flown to wrong city

After flying down the right side of the pitch for Canada during its run at the FIFA World Cup, Alistair Johnston’s next flight proved far more troublesome than any opponent on the pitch.

The Canadian right back, who proved to be one of Canada’s best players at this summer’s tournament, apparently ended up being flown to the wrong city and without his baggage after leaving the team following Saturday’s Round of 16 loss to Morocco.

“Learned my lesson today. Never fly (Frontier Airlines) even if it’s the only direct flight available,” Johnston wrote on Sunday. “Genuinely look for multi-stop redeye flights before flying with them.

“I’m still not sure where my bags are and I’m in the wrong city somehow.”

The official account of the Canadian men’s national team replied to the Celtic star, asking “Where did they send you?” while adding a crying emoji.

It remains unclear where Johnston and his luggage ended up during his post-World Cup adventure as the right back hasn’t shared any further travel details on social media.

One fellow travel did reply with a photo of himself and Johnston at an airport, sharing his own ridiculous Frontier Airlines story.

“I managed to get on the next connecting flight, it was genuinely ridiculous,” X user Danny Pham wrote. “Frontier turned a 2.5-hour flight into 8-9 hours flight + a horrendous delay (14hours).

“After we took the next flight that they rebooked us to. I know where your bag is, it’s at the original airport.”

The airline’s response team replied to Pham’s post, asking for further details and thanking him for bringing the problems to its attention.

“We’re very sorry to hear about your experience and truly appreciate you bringing this to our attention,” it wrote. “We would certainly like to look into this further.️”

What else did Johnston say?

While Johnston clearly wasn’t too happy with his travel experience, he was thrilled with the support he and Team Canada received through the summer soccer tournament.

Earlier this week, he shared a nice message to Canadian supporters after the squad’s thrilling World Cup came to an end this past weekend.

“Thank you Canada,” Johnston shared on Instagram. “Your support gave us the belief that anything was possible & we hope that you all enjoyed the ride as much as we did!

“This group takes such pride in representing our country and I hope that we made you proud. See you all soon.”

He included a pair of team photos with the post as well as one of Canadian fans showing their support.

Johnston should be back in Scotland shortly to begin training with Celtic ahead of the coming Scottish Premier League season. How he’ll get to the team’s camp remains to be seen, but we doubt he’ll be using Frontier Airlines.
