The Blue Jays have been out of town on a seven-game trip, but that doesn’t mean there hasn’t been some excitement at Rogers Centre.
An unidentified group of daredevils appeared to have gained access to the downtown dome and filmed themselves hanging high above the field.
The video, which was posted on X by RTN Toronto, shows a young person walking along a beam with the infield diamond far below. What appears to be a young man is also seen sitting on a beam with his feet dangling, first from another person’s perspective and then from a handheld shot.
Along with the 22-second video, RTN wrote: “These kids are getting too brave, this was from the Rogers Centre in Toronto.”
The video left many people online with either shaky knees or just shaking their heads.
What do fans think of the video?
“Brave isn’t the right word. Stupid, irresponsible. Those fit better,” one user replied on X.
“I don’t think brave is the right word, this is pretty stupid. Zero reward for risking your life isn’t prudent decision-making,” another posted on social media.
“Future Darwin Award nominees,” a third user wrote.
As for the many who needed to take a seat after watching the clip:
“I watched this while standing and now I’m on the floor,” one fan wrote on X.
“Nope nope nope. Can’t even watch,” another wrote.
“This makes my palms sweaty,” a third commented.
What did Blue Jays and Toronto Police say?
Others weren’t sure if the video was real or made by AI, with Toronto Police in the same boat.
When contacted for comment regarding the video, a police spokesperson could not confirm if it was real or AI, and noted they “could not locate any calls for service or investigations in relation to a trespasser fitting the images in the video.”
A spokesperson for the Blue Jays said that the team is aware of the incident and are looking into the matter.
“Rogers Centre hosts millions of fans at more than 100 sports and entertainment events each year and ensuring the safety of all attendees is a top priority,” Andrea Goldstein, Toronto Blue Jays Vice President of Communications, wrote in an e-mailed response Thursday.
“Rogers Centre has robust security measures both inside and outside of the stadium and works closely with the city and all levels of law enforcement to ensure a safe experience for all fans.”
How are the Blue Jays doing?
As for the Blue Jays, they are set to wrap up their seven-game trip on Thursday night in the Bronx against the New York Yankees.
During Wednesday night’s game, Trey Yesavage won a duel between young star pitchers, defeating the Yanks’ Cam Schlittler.
The Jays head into Thursday’s game – which is set for a 7:05 p.m. start and will be a bullpen day, with Spencer Miles expected to carry the bulk of the load – with a 22-27 record after going 3-3 so far on the trip.
