San Francisco’s trio of outfielders showed that they might have a bit more than just clubhouse chemistry on Monday night — and reportedly were told to dial it back.
After the Giants scored a big 9-3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers, outfielders Drew Gilbert, Harrison Bader and Jung Hoo Lee took part in a rather risqué celebration that went viral on social media.
The three players gathered for a group hug after defeating their NL West rival, but then began to thrust their hips at each other a few times each in a “suggestive” manner.
The clip drew laughs on social media — former Yankees ace CC Sabathia joked that he’s glad he’s retired — and from inside the Giants’ own clubhouse.
What did the team’s manager say?
When asked about the celebration, Giants manager Tony Vitello could only joke about the matter.
“I’ll leave that up to — no opinion on that, or no comment on that,” Vitello said with a laugh while speaking to reporters ahead of Tuesday’s game against L.A.
“But I know what you’re saying. They’re a close-knit group, let’s put it that way.”
Monday’s celebration was just an escalation of what the team’s outfield trio has been up to so far this season, as showcased by Jomboy on X.
At first, Gilbert attempted to go in for a kiss on Lee, who retaliated by trying to force together the heads of Gilbert and teammate Heliot Ramos, before Monday’s display.
But as attention grew throughout the day, fans were dialed in to see what the trio might pull off if the Giants scored another win on Tuesday night.
While San Francisco did emerge with a 6-2 victory, the reaction from the outfielders was much more tame: Gilbert, Lee and Ramos joined together in the outfield and bowed to the fans.
“There was a meeting,” Vitello said after Tuesday’s game, meaning that we’re unlikely to see such a celebration again.
The Athletic’s Andrew Baggarly also reported it was a “one-and-done” situation.
“It’s my understanding that ‘a message has been relayed’ and here’s the thrust of it: this particular outfield win celebration will be a one-and-done,” he wrote on social media site Bluesky.
“I don’t think Jung Hoo will be sad about that,” he jokingly added.
