Viral Olympian who suffered a frozen penis is missing Milano-Cortina with another unfortunate injury

Remi Lindholm keeps bringing new definitions to the vague term “lower-body injury.”

The Finnish cross-country skier who went viral after suffering a frozen penis during the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing is missing the 2026 Games in Milano-Cortina after another unfortunate incident.

Lindholm was left off his county’s Olympic squad after suffering a broken backside while training in May.

The Finn shared news of the injury on Instagram when it occurred while working out with a friend, revealing that he had suffered a fractured sacrum, a bone located in the lower back and situated between the two hipbones.

“Here we go. We ran a few races with Miro and my back hurt. The end result is a stress fracture in my sacrum and a bit of a hiatus for a while,” Lindholm wrote on Instagram after his injury.

He also included two photos of himself on crutches and another of himself sitting naked inside a sauna.

How bad does a frozen penis hurt?

Lindholm went viral during the 2022 Beijing Games while competing in what was originally supposed to be the men’s 50 km cross-country skiing event. However, due to fierce winds and brutal weather conditions at the time, the race was reduced to a distance of 30 km.

With temperatures at -17C, Lindholm finished the event in one hour and 16 minutes to come in 28th place — a fine effort considering the rather painful circumstances he had to endure.

After the race, Finnish media outlet IL reported that Lindholm endured the nasty ailment, which he described as “unbearable.”

“You can probably guess what was on the ice when I got to the finish line. It was one of the worst competitions I’ve been in,” he said.

“It was just about battling through. When the body parts started to warm up after the finish, the pain was unbearable.”

Lindholm did have some good humour after the icy ordeal, having announced a sponsorship with an aptly named grooming company: Dick Johnson.

When is this year’s race?

This year’s men’s race is set to be held on Feb. 21 at the Tesero Cross-country Skiing Stadium in Lago, Italy.

Lindholm isn’t the only notable competitor that won’t be returning from the previous edition.

Reigning champion Alexander Bolshunov will not be back to defend his gold medal.

The Russian’s appeal to compete as an Individual Neutral Athlete was denied by the Court of Arbitration for Sport after his country was banned from the Olympics four days after the closing ceremony of the Beijing Games.
