Boxer Jarrell Miller gets hairpiece knocked off during heavyweight fight

One spectator got an unexpected souvenir during a heavyweight boxing match over the weekend – a toupee.

Jarrell Miller was put into an unfortunate situation when his hairpiece came loose from the top of his head after taking several heavy punches from opponent Kingsley Ibeh on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The hairpiece tried its best to hang on, but eventually the referee stepped in as the bell rang to end the second round, allowing Miller to remove it and throw it into the crowd.

The moment went viral, with commentators struggling to hold back their laughter over the one-of-a-kind situation.

“Is it coming off, what is happening here?” one analyst on the DAZN stream asked. “He’s losing his hair!”

“That’s like a cartoon!” the other exclaimed.

The toupee ended up in the hands of WBO heavyweight champion Fabio Wardley, who was watching the fight and gave the toupee a spot next to him for “safe keeping.”

Miller embraced the incident, which might have left others in the situation more embarrassed than anything.

Why was Miller wearing a toupee?

After the fight, Miller revealed the reason why he stepped between the ropes while wearing a toupee, saying that he accidentally had used “ammonia bleach” instead of shampoo to wash his hair at his mother’s house two days before the fight – which also would explain why his head appeared to have a chemical burn.

“I’m a comedian,” Miller said during the post-fight interview, per ESPN. “You have to make fun of yourself.”

The hair setback didn’t throw Miller off his game, as he was able to improve his record to 27-1-2 after going the distance and notching a split decision victory over Ibeh. It was Miller’s first fight since taking on Andy Ruiz in August 2024, a battle that was ruled a majority draw.
