The Toronto Blue Jays will be celebrating a milestone anniversary in style.
This coming season, the Jays will wear a commemorative patch to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of becoming an MLB franchise.
The team made the announcement on Tuesday, showing off all of the intricate details that went into the special patch’s design.
“The colour palette includes vintage turquoise, royal blue and modern red, representing shades from the club’s past and present, connecting old to new, while the gold outline symbolizes the significant 50th milestone,” the team said in a release.
The logo on the patch is the original 1977 bird’s head, including the original vintage Maple Leaf and baseball background – which also helps represent the zero in 50.
The ‘5’ is written in the club’s “original split font,” which has been used on several occasions during the team’s five-decade history.
“Celebrating 50 Seasons with a logo you know and love,” the post is captioned.
The patch will be worn on the Blue Jays regular home and away uniforms throughout the season while it will be placed on the hats of the City Connect outfits.
More anniversary highlights
The team also posted a video showcasing some of the Blue Jays many highlights from their half-century of existence, ranging from the first pitch at Exhibition Stadium, to Dave Stieb’s no-hitter, World Series championships in the 90s and several more-recent clips featuring Jose Bautista and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
“From coast to coast to coast. Generation to generation. 50 Seasons. Canada’s Team,” the post was captioned.
The patch was an instant hit on social media, with several fans wondering when they would be available to public consumption.
“sooo we getting special jerseys right!?” one fan asked on X.
“I absolutely love it. When will Jerseys with the 50th Anniversary patch be available to purchase?” another asked.
The Blue Jays open the season at home on March 27 against the Athletics, with an on-field ceremony reportedly planned to celebrate the anniversary as well as the Blue Jays’ 2025 AL pennant.
There will be several anniversary celebrations throughout the season, with milestone days and promotions yet to be announced.
