Nick Foles torched the New England Patriots during Super Bowl LII in 2018 and now he has torched them again on social media in 2026.
The former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback is best known for leading the team to its first ever Super Bowl after starting QB Carson Wentz suffered a season-ending injury — a similar situation to the one that the Denver Broncos now find themselves in.
During Saturday’s thrilling overtime win over the Buffalo Bills, Broncos starting QB Bo Nix suffered a broken ankle on one of the final plays of the game.
During his post-game press conference, head coach Sean Payton announced the Nix would be undergoing surgery to repair his ankle and has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
With the second-year QB on the shelf, Payton said that journeyman Jarrett Stidham –— who has four career NFL starts — will get the call against the Patriots in the AFC Championship game this coming Sunday.
With Broncos’ spirits low after the injury was announced, Foles took to X to send a message of encouragement to the team – and also a little jab in the Patriots’ direction.
What did Foles say?
“Note for the Broncos and their fans: I know it has been an emotional 24 hours,” Foles posted on Sunday. “I feel for Bo and the team, and I’m sending prayers for a strong recovery.
“A positive note going into the game versus the Patriots is that they struggle against backup QBs in championship-type games.”
Foles, of course, was referring to his 2018 triumph over Tom Brady and the Pats, in which Foles threw for 373 passing yards and three TDs. He also caught a touchdown on a trick play now known as the Philly Special.
All about Jarrett Stidham
Stidham was selected by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2019 draft. He appeared in eight games over two seasons while attempting just 48 total passes.
He later moved on to the Las Vegas Raiders for one season, posting an 0-2 record in his two starts, and then signed with the Broncos as a free agent in 2023.
He hasn’t appeared in a playoff game in his career and hasn’t thrown a pass in a regular-season game since 2023.
On Monday, the team signed former Dallas Cowboys QB Ben DiNucci to serve as backup to Stidham.
The Broncos, who finished the regular season as the AFC West champions and No. 1 seed in the conference, are looking to return to the Super Bowl for the first time since 2015, when they defeated the Carolina Panthers.
