Troubled ex-NBA star Delonte West arrested for allegedly stealing $23 in robbery

Delonte West is in trouble with the law once again.

The former point guard was reportedly arrested last month for robbery in the latest a of string of worrying events in his post-NBA life.

According to TMZ, the 42-year-old was arrested on Dec. 21, 2025, after allegedly robbing someone of US$23 in Belle Haven, Va.

He was taken into custody after being pointed out by the alleged victim across the street from where the incident occurred.

According to court records viewed by the New York Post, West was charged with assault and battery, and robbery using force,

The eight-year NBA veteran was released on $1,000 bond and is due back in Fairfax County court on March 16.

According to reports, West had just completed 30 days of sobriety.

What does West’s lawyer say?

According to TMZ, West’s attorney, Brandon Sloane, says he is “confident the details of the case will show there’s much more to the story,” but also that the former NBAer is “using the experience as a wake-up call to seek professional help.”

Sloane added he is “proud of Delonte as he has used this process to seek out help and been released on bond to a treatment facility.”

“We all look forward to his continued progress, and Delonte is particularly appreciative of the numerous thoughts and well wishes over the last several weeks.”

What trouble has West been in before?

This arrest marks this latest off-court problem for West after he was found unconscious and intoxicated on the side of a road in the same area last November.

West was also arrested on two occasions in 2024. The first in June after fleeing police who were attempting to serve a warrant following accusations that West violated conditions of release and resisted arrest. Then in November he was busted for misdemeanor trespassing.

West, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2008 while still playing, has also struggled with drugs and homelessness.

A clip on social media of West panhandling in Texas went viral in 2020, with Mavericks owner Mark Cuban reaching out to help.

West’s NBA career

West was a first-round draft pick of the Boston Celtics in 2004, being selected 24th overall. He played three seasons with the Celtics, but failed to live up to his billing.

He was sent to Seattle as part of the Ray Allen trade in 2007 and then later moved to the Cavaliers, where he played for three seasons alongside LeBron James. He returned to Boston for one season before playing his final year with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011-12.

West averaged 9.7 points and 3.6 assists over his 432 career games.
