Blue Jays fans smash Loonie Dogs record with staggering new total

There was at least one thing to celebrate during Tuesday night’s game at the Rogers Centre, even if the home team wasn’t able to come through on the field.

While the Blue Jays lost 4-1 to the visiting Boston Red Sox — partly due to a controversial call going against star slugger George Springer — the hordes of Jays supporters made history with the hotdog intake during the game.

In the final Loonie Dog game of the season presented by Schneiders — the hotdog brand, not Jays manager John nor utility man Davis — fans purchased a whopping 92,896 discounted dogs.

While that total, as impressive as it is, fell short of the single-game record, it did push the season-long tally to 826,308 with the new record sitting at nearly 100,000 more than last year’s total.

Fans at the downtown dome twice had broken the record for most Loonie Dogs sold during a game — on July 22 there were 84,731 Schneiders Loonie Dogs sold, and then that mark was shattered on Aug. 26 with a staggering 96,633 dogs bought.

Tuesday night’s game became the second-biggest for Loonie Dogs, topping the Sept. 9 contest against the Houston Astros when the number hit 86,615.

Schneiders also had marked the event by giving away free vintage-style shirts to commemorate the occasion. Tuesday night marked the final Loonie Dog night of the year, with the team opting to keep the focus on the field for any potential Tuesday home games in the post-season.

According to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet, Jays fans already had surpassed 2024’s mark for most Lonnie Dogs purchases in a season, which sat at 727,819.

Fans at the Rogers Centre also were hungrier this season — much like the team on the field. With 826,308 Loonie Dogs sold and a total attendance for the Tuesday night promo games hitting 410,095 fans, Blue Jays fans consumed an average 2.01 hotdogs per game this season, up from 1.82 in 2024.

The Blue Jays are back in action on Wednesday, hoping to turn thing around after a recent rough stretch of five losses in six games. Max Scherzer will get the start against Garrett Crochet of the Red Sox.

Toronto has five games remaining and a slim one-game lead over the New York Yankees in the AL East. The Bronx Bombers will be facing with lowly Chicago White Sox at home on Wednesday night.
