Viral video shows Clemson fan choking LSU rival after heated taunt

There’s a popular adage on social media that, paraphrased, boils down to ‘mess around and find out’ what happens.

During one of the weekend’s biggest U.S. college football games, one visiting fan ended up in a precarious position after messing around with a supporter of the home side towards the end of an upset.

A young, boisterous fan of the LSU Tigers got slammed into a wall and put in a chokehold during his team’s game against the Clemson Tigers in South Carolina – and, yes, both teams share the Tigers nickname.

In a clip posted to social media, the fan was seen celebrating wildly in the last few rows of Memorial Stadium before taunting a Clemson fan by screaming and getting down on one knee to give him a double middle-finger salute.

The Clemson fan, who appeared to be several years older than the LSU fan, didn’t take the display kindly while watching his team lose 17-10.

In the clip – which has been viewed more than 2.8 million times since being posted on Monday — the Clemson fan grabs the LSU fan, who was wearing an Odell Beckham Jr. jersey, and pushes him against the back wall of the stadium’s upper deck.

The clip then freeze-frames the older fan gripping the young man by the throat as several other fans attempt to break up the altercation.

“This young LSU fan got CHOKED OUT by an older Clemson fan for celebrating in his face and giving him the middle finger after LSU won,” NFL reporter Dov Kleiman captioned the video on X. “Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.”

It is unclear how the incident ended. Neither man involved had been publicly identified as of Tuesday afternoon.

The schools have not commented on the video, although the actions likely would have been sufficient grounds for ejection from the stadium.

According to the Daily Mail, no charges appear to have been filed with Clemson police over the incident.
