‘Unrecognizable’ NFL draft bust couldn’t fit in cop car after arrest, police say

The unfortunate story of Justin Blackmon has hit a new low.

The former fifth-overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft reportedly was unable to fit in the back of a police cruiser after he was arrested for alleged public intoxication this past weekend.

A police report obtained by TMZ states that a larger vehicle was required to transport the former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver to jail and that police needed two sets of handcuffs due to his “body size and the girth of his wrists.”

Now 35 years old, Blackmon’s arrest went viral on weekend with many football fans on social media astonished at former college football star’s change in appearance in his mug shot.

Blackmon, who starred for the Oklahoma State Cowboys during his collegiate career, reportedly was “unsteady on his feet, reeked of alcohol and was wearing wet clothes,” according to the incident report from his Saturday arrest.

Blackmon was arrested early Saturday and charged with public intoxication in Payne County, Okla., while his alleged mug shot states that he lives in Ardmore, which is roughly 250 kilometres to the south.

According to the outlet, Oklahoma State police received a call about a “larger black male” lying on the ground at 1:32 a.m. on Saturday.

When police arrived, Blackmon had entered a campus building and when they encountered him, the ex-NFLer allegedly was wobbling and smelled of alcohol while his speech was “slurred and confusing,” according to authorities.

Blackmon reportedly attempted to convince the officers that he was headed to Stillwater, Okla., where the Oklahoma State campus is located, but when the cops told him that Stillwater was a place and not a specific address, he said he did not live in the area and “you got me,” per the report.

The arrest report listed Blackmon as weighing 230 pounds, about 20 pounds heavier than his listed weight during his playing days.

Blackmon’s troubled NFL career lasted just two seasons after being selected fifth overall by Jacksonville in 2012.

After playing all 16 games during his rookie season and making 64 catches for 865 receiving yards and five touch downs, Blackmon played just four games the following season before being suspended for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy.

His suspension initially was for four games, which later became indefinite for another violation of the policy.

In 2014, he was arrested for marijuana possession and the league denied him reinstatement for the 2015 season. He was then arrested again in 2015 for DUI in Oklahoma.
