Giants’ Younghoe Koo goes viral after hilariously botched field-goal attempt vs Patriots

New York Giants kicker Younghoe Koo made a giant mistake during Monday Night Football, one that even some legends of the game have never seen before.

During a field-goal attempt in the second quarter of the Giants’ 33-15 loss to the New England Patriots in Foxborough, Koo lined up to kick the ball on a 47-yard attempt, but instead he only ended up kicking the ground.

The holder on the play, Jamie Gillan, who also is the team’s punter, attempted to make the most out of the disastrous situation by picking up the ball and trying to evade the on-rushing defenders, however he was taken down for a 13-yard loss as New England took over possession.

The play was something that even Peyton Manning and brother Eli – who played a combined 33 years in the NFL during their storied careers — said they had never seen before.

The brothers were left stunned by the turn of events while speaking with actor Danny DeVito during their ‘Manningcast’ alternate broadcast of the game.

“The kicker tripped trying to kick the field goal, he tripped trying to kick the field goal,” Peyton exclaimed. “I have not seen that … ever.”

“I’ve never seen that. I’ve never seen that,” DeVito concurred.

Eli, a Giants legend, shared a pair of “uh ohs” before they showed the replay of what happened.

“Eli, it’s like one of your fat nine-irons you hit,” Peyton joked of his younger brother’s golf game. “It’s all grass.”

“I’ve never seen that. I’ve never seen that,” Eli responded.

The broadcast captured Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart rolling his eyes at the play, appearing to say, “Oh my God.”

DeVito then echoed the sentiment, saying, “Oh my God,” as the clip was shown, to which Peyton quickly quipped: “That’s what Dart said, Danny. Dart said the same thing as you.”

After the game, Koo tried to explain what happened.

“I was approaching the ball and, cold weather, the ball kind of slipped out at the bottom so it was moving,” Koo told reporters. “I wasn’t able to kick through the ball. The ball was moving when I was driving to it, so I just pulled up on it.”

The kicker, who started the season in Atlanta before being cut after just one game, also complimented his holder for trying to make the best out of a tricky situation.

“Jamie did a good job of catching it and putting it back,” Koo said, “but, at that point, it was too late.”
