Antonio Brown never has been afraid to speak his mind or make a crass joke, and he’s once again fired up people.
The former NFL all-pro sparked outrage online during a live stream earlier this week after making a joke about Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
The retired wide receiver was visiting the Florida home of controversial rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine with YouTube streamer Adin Ross.
While Brown, 6ix9ine and Ross were outside playing pickup football, several fans drove past the property. Given the rapper’s past run-ins with the law and a recent break-in at Tekashi’s home, the group were very cognizant of the attention and began to head inside.
During a clip shared on social media, Brown was seen approaching Ross and asking, “No one’s gonna Charlie Kirk me, right?”
Kirk, a well-known political commentator, was shot and killed during an appearance at Utah Valley University in September.
Brown’s comment came less than a week after he posted bail.
Extradited to face charge from May event
The former NFLer recently was extradited from Dubai to the United States to face an attempted murder charge stemming from an incident at a May boxing event hosted by Ross in Miami.
Brown allegedly shot at Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu — the same person who waved a Palestinian flag during Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime performance in February.
Brown is accused of grabbing a handgun from a security staffer and firing two shots, according to an arrest warrant. Nantambu told investigators that one of the bullets grazed his neck.
Brown’s attorney said that the affidavit is mistaken and that the ex-NFLer actually used his personal firearm and that the shots were not aimed at anyone.
Brown also has claimed on social media that Nantambu “(tried) to steal from me and threaten my life.”
Last Thursday, Brown was released on US$25,000 bail after pleading not guilty to a second-degree attempted murder charge.
Circuit Judge Mindy Glazer ordered Brown to wear a GPS ankle monitor as he awaits his trial. He faces a potential 15-year prison sentence and a fine up to $10,000 if convicted.
