While she was surrounded by some soccer greats, it was Kate Scott who had to be quick on her feet after an on-air mishap left the studio stunned.
The CBS Sports host experienced an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction during the network’s Champions League coverage on Wednesday, leaving her scrambling to cover up.
The 44-year-old broadcaster was alongside retired soccer stars Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards when American hero Clint Dempsey joined the panel, leading to greetings all around.
But when Scott rose from her seat at the far left of the desk to fist-bump Dempsey, she reached a bit too far, tearing her top at the seams.
With quick reflexes, she covered up the rip with her left hand while returning to a seated position in a look of shock.
“I just broke my top,” she said before bursting into laughter.
Henry replied with a shocked, “Really?!” while Richards – who has had his share of wardrobe malfunctions on air – was quick to joke about the situation.
“Now you know how it feels. Give us a stretch, Kate!,” the former Manchester City defender said.
Scott maintained her composure, continuing to deliver the show’s rundown before heading into a commercial break as her co-hosts could barely contain their laughter.
Fans online praised Scott for her poise under fire while others joked about the situation.
“Kate might be the best in the business,” one user commented.
“Kate is lucky Brest is not in the champions league, they were gonna be exposed,” another replied, referencing a French football club whose name often is an in-joke on the program.
Many also pointed out how the four former players seemingly hung Scott out to dry, with none of the men offering up their jackets to the host.
“And not one of them jumped up to offer Kate their jacket,” one user wrote on X.
Earlier this year, Richards suffered his own clothing mishap, bursting a button on his jacket after leaping out of his seat following a dramatic goal in a game between Barcelona and Benfica.
Richards also had an embarrassing blunder back in 2023. While trying to emulate Kylian Mbappe’s goal celebration, the Englishman ended up splitting his trousers.
