On the field, the Blue Jays are chasing down a division title and maybe even the best record in the American League after officially clinching a playoff berth on Sunday in Kansas City.
But in the stands, fans have a chance at making some history of their own.
Tuesday night’s matchup with the Boston Red Sox at Rogers Centre will be the final Loonie Dog game of the season and Schneiders is marking the occasion with some limited-edition gear – and pushing fans to hit a massive milestone.
Fans at the downtown dome already twice have broken the record for most Loonie Dogs sold during a game – on July 22 there were 84,731 Schneiders Loonie Dogs sold, and then that mark was shattered on Aug. 26 with a staggering 96,633 dogs bought.
The most recent Loonie Dogs night, on Sept. 9 against the Houston Astros, saw the number hit 86,615 – good for the second-best total in the promotion’s history.
Now, the aim for this Tuesday’s game is to hit six figures – which isn’t completely out of the realm of possibility considering the hunger displayed by the upstart team and its fans this summer.
Schneiders will be giving away the free vintage-style shirts at section 108 on the main level concourse beside The Catch Bar.
The game will mark the final Loonie Dog night of the year, with the team opting to keep the focus on the field for any potential Tuesday home games in the post-season.
However, Schneiders did hint that if the limited-edition shirts are a hit, there could be an opportunity for more such drops in the future.
According to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet, Jays fans already have surpassed the record for most Lonnie Dogs purchases in a season – with Tuesday night still to go.
The 733,412 hotdogs sold so far in 2025 tops last year’s total tally of 727,819. Even more impressive, the dogs per fan ratio climbed to an even 2.0 per person after last year’s 1.82 mark.
With six games remaining in the regular season, the Blue Jays have a magic number of four to clinch the AL East title and, with it, a likely first-round bye in the playoffs. After six games against the Boston Red Sox, the Tampa Bay Rays will come to Rogers Centre to wrap up the season this weekend.
On Tuesday night, Kevin Gausman is set to get the start for the Jays while the Red Sox will be sending Lucas Giolito to the hill. First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 p.m.
