Golf star reveals staggering amount he drank after making Ryder Cup team

Tyrrell Hatton seriously tied one on after learning that he had earned a spot on the European team for this year’s Ryder Cup.

The LIV Golf star revealed just how many libations he had in celebration of the feat – and the disgusting consequences he found in the morning.

Hatton shared the story ahead of this weekend’s BMW PGA Championship in Virginia Water, England, detailing the boozy night he shared with Ryder Cup teammate Jon Rahm.

“I had like six glasses of wine at dinner and then I had a double gin and tonic, drunk that at a very normal rate, and then Jon was deciding what he wanted and he said Disaronno sours, and I was like ‘Perfect, go on then,’” Hatton told reporters during a press conference Wednesday.

“They go down very easily. And then I was starting the chant of basically getting someone to down it, which then every cocktail that followed was a shot. Then we ran out of Disaronno and the guy at the bar made some hazelnut sour, which wasn’t great, and there was a few of them. Then there was a margarita and then there was a strawberry vodka thing.

“God, it was aggressive. It was horrible. But I mean, it was funny at the time.”

Hatton’s quip of “at the time” couldn’t be more accurate after he described what occurred when he returned to his hotel room after the epic bender.

“When I did actually get back into the room, I fell across the bed sideways and face down in that position, and then I’ve woken myself up throwing up in that position,” he said. “I’ve then fallen back asleep in that position and then as I’ve woken up, I’ve got sick all down my arms, both sides, all down my shirt.

“I get off the bed and walk around to the bathroom, look in the mirror, and I’m like, ‘Oh, my God,’ I got sick in my face, in my beard.

“How I set an alarm to make the flight for the few hours’ time, I don’t know. But then waking up in a slightly more sober state was horrendous.”

Hatton said that he called his wife, Emily, asking for help before stripping the bed and leaving an apologetic note – and some cash – for the unfortunate hotel employees who would be cleaning up the chaotic mess.

“I was like, ‘I don’t know what to do,’ I mean, I was rushing to make the room somewhat acceptable before leaving,” he said. “So yeah, I ended up stripping the bed, leaving some cash and a note, saying I was ‘really sorry, I was sick in the bed in the night, please throw it in the trash.’

“I feel like I did the right thing upon leaving, but obviously in a pretty bad state.”

The Ryder Cup tees off later this month at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, N.Y., with the European team looking to defend its title against the American squad. Team Europe won the 2023 event hosted in Lazio, Italy, at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club.

Hatton was one of the six automatic qualifiers, along with Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood, Robert MacIntyre and Rasmus Højgaard.

Matt Fitzpatrick, Viktor Hovland, Shane Lowry, Sepp Straka, Ludvig Abert and Rahm were named by Luke Donald as his captain’s selections earlier this month.
