Fiery WNBA star slaps clipboard out of coach’s hand in wild outburst

Chicago Sky star Angel Reese was no angel towards the end of Tuesday night’s game against the Washington Mystics.

The fiery sophomore slapped a clipboard out of the hands of Sky staffer Ann Crosby while storming back to the bench during the final seconds of the tight contest.

Reese didn’t so much as look at Crosby as she trudges past her towards teammates in apparent frustration.

The Sky star explained her actions in a post on X later that night, noting that Crosby — the team’s vice president of basketball operations, strength and conditioning — understood the situation.

“Those **** were pissing me off. Shoutout to Ann because she know it was the heat of the moment and she didn’t let me apologize because she knew! Not happening again tho,” Reese wrote, adding an emoji of a woman face-palming and a crying face.

Reese notably didn’t name any officials in the post, likely avoiding a fine in the process.

The incident occurred with 29.9 seconds remaining in the game and the teams tied 77-77. After the timeout, the Mystics scored to take a two-point lead before Reese hit two free throws to knot things up at 79-79.

However, Washington secured the win when Shakira Austin made free throws with 2.1 seconds remaining and the Sky was unable to respond.

Reese threw her hands up after the foul call against teammate Elizabeth Williams in the final seconds and then ripped the referees after the game for blowing the whistle on the game-deciding play.

“You just have to better,” Reese said. “Can’t let it come down one possession. Refs make calls that they know are not right and they’ll look back and know that wasn’t the right call. But we just have to box out and not give them an opportunity to even be able go up for another opportunity for free throws.”

Despite her excellent performance, putting up a game-high 22 points and 15 rebounds, the Sky lost to the host Mystics 81-79.

The game marked Reese’s sixth straight contest with 15 or more rebounds – a WNBA record.

That wasn’t the only good news for Reese, either.

The former LSU standout was announced as the cover athlete for the WNBA Edition of the coming NBA 2K26 video game, which will be released later this year.

Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and NBA great Carmelo Anthony also will serve as cover athletes for the latest addition of the hit franchise.
