Former Raptors superstar allegedly involved in fight at sushi restaurant

Good Friday was not a good day for DeMar DeRozan.

The former Toronto Raptors all-star and current Sacramento Kings swing man appeared to be involved in an alleged altercation with a fan at a sushi restaurant in California.

The video, which was obtained by TMZ, begins with a man already on the floor of the restaurant with his legs in the air, appearing to defend himself.

DeRozan is seen being held back by a woman in a grey sweatsuit holding a phone with a very bright flashlight shining. The woman keeps herself between the NBA star and the other man after he returns to his feet as the group exchanges words.

The man demands that he gets his phone back, which seems to irk DeRozan, who then takes a swing at him but does not connect.

The woman in grey does a good job of keeping the two separated as DeRozan is backed into another section of the restaurant while she says “not worth it.”

Police confirmed to the outlet that they responded to an incident involving the NBA veteran around 10:30 p.m. local time on Friday at Yume Sushi in Calabasas and that the investigation is ongoing.

TMZ also reported that the alleged altercation began when the man approached DeRozan, who was seated at a table, and shoved his phone with a bright light in the NBA star’s face.

This was backed up by a video posted on X early Saturday morning, which showed the apparent video taken by the man.

The man is seen approaching DeRozan with his phone recording and light on, saying “Hey DeMar, they tried to kick me out for no reason,” before the phone appears to be knocked out of his hand and a scuffle ensues.

Along with the clip, the man also accused DeRozan of attacking him in the post on X which had been viewed almost 4 million times as of Monday morning.

“I just Get Attacked & Body Slapped By DeMar DeRozan : Don’t Meet Your Hero’s Kids : I Don’t think @champagnepapi will like this Behavior: I think Drake Won the Rap Battle,” he wrote in the post, also tagging several news outlets.

The man also recorded himself sitting the back of an ambulance, having apparently suffered an injury to his hand.
